The Bucks D-League team would be the fourth expansion team to be added for the 2017-18 season. The Orlando Magic will own and operate their own affiliate in Lakeland, FL, while the Memphis Grizzlies will do the same in Southaven, MS after the Minnesota Timberwolves announced their interest to purchase the Iowa Energy.
The Erie BayHawks will be operated by the Atlanta Hawks for the 2017-18 season and will be moved to College Park, GA for the 2019-20 season. The Orlando Magic D-League team will maintain the player rights of those currently playing in Erie while the “new” team will be a part of next year’s expansion draft.
Only five NBA teams remain without their own D-League affiliate on the road to 30 (Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers).
