Editor’s note: Prior to the 2014 NBA D-League Select team roster being finalized, Reggie Williams backed out from agreeing to play with the team.
While it hasn’t been made official yet, DleagueDigest.com has learned that Josh Akognon, Tre Kelley, and Reggie Williams are expected to play for the NBA D-League Select Team in Las Vegas according to sources.
At last season’s NBA Summer League, Akognon played for the Dallas Mavericks and averaged 17.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist, and 1.0 steal in 26.1 minutes. The former Cal State Fullerton standout played with the Delaware 87ers in the NBA D-League last season, and averaged 15.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.6 steals in 27.9 minutes.
Tre Kelley has spent the past three seasons in the NBA D-League, but recently enjoyed his best season yet as a member of the Austin Toros and Sioux Falls Skyforce. In the 2013-2014 NBADL season, Kelley averaged 18.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. Kelley also shot 46% from beyond the arc.
The NBA veteran Reggie Williams hasn’t participated at NBA Summer League since the 2010-2011 season with the Golden State Warriors. Williams was impressive with the Tulsa 66ers last season, and in 25 games (21 starts) averaged 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.5 steals.
Also, given the coaching staff for the 2014 NBA D-League Select team (Conner Henry, Steve Gansey, Sean Rooks and Dylan Murphy… at the moment), don’t be surprised to see a few Fort Wayne Mad Ants join the roster in Las Vegas. Some of the names to be considered are 2013-2014 NBA D-League MVP Ron Howard, Matt Bouldin and Tony Mitchell.
