DleagueDigest.com first picked up the news on a possible one-to-one affiliation between the Idaho Stampede and Utah Jazz back in mid-April, and now it seems the deal is just waiting to become official.
Utah Jazz beat reporter Jody Genessy of the Deseret News has also learned of the deal through his sources. In Genessy’s report, the Utah Jazz did not officially comment, and to add to that, the Idaho Stampede did not confirm a deal was done as well to DleagueDigest.com as of Wednesday evening.
However, with the various sources between Genessy’s report, and that of which DleagueDigest.com has received, it is very likely that the deal will take place. Utah is chalk full of young talent, and have draft picks coming, which seems like a win for Idaho Stampede fans. With the growing trend of player assignments, Idaho fans should expect plenty of NBA talent to land under CenturyLink Arena’s roof in the 2014-2015 season.
When Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today first reported news of an Orlando Magic-Erie BayHawks hybrid affiliation, it didn’t become clear that the official announcement would take place until DleagueDigest.com learned that such an announcement will take place during the week of May 19th, over a month later.
Should we expect the same time frame with the Utah Jazz-Idaho Stampede deal? Maybe, but whenever the news does becomes official, it will be yet another step in the right direction regarding the NBA D-League’s ultimate plan to have a full 30-to-30 affiliate setup.
