According to a source, Chris Smith has been waived by the Erie BayHawks (New York Knicks NBA D-League affiliate). Smith is now available in the NBA D-League player pool.
Smith, who spent time with the New York Knicks this season, was originally assigned by the club back on November 18. Smith was then recalled by the Knicks on December 17.
New York ultimately waived Smith on December 31, and after was claimed by the Erie BayHawks from the NBA D-League player pool.
In 23 games for the BayHawks, Smith averaged 8.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. Smith last played for Erie back on February 22, and logged just five minutes in a loss to the Delaware 87ers.
Who will take a swing on the notable brother of J.R. Smith next? Surely, this isn’t the last that we’ve seen of Chris Smith, and it will be interesting to see if a team acquires the guard during this important stretch of the season.
