Tiny Gallon Is Earning Trust And Finding Consistency In NBA D-League
At just 23 years old, Tiny Gallon has plenty of basketball ahead of him, however, that wasn’t always the case for the former second round NBA draft pick.
There once was a time that Gallon stepped away from the game, and was unsure if he would ever return.
For two and half years Gallon took a hiatus from playing, he had a daughter, and felt like his top priority was to be with her. Basketball was no longer a focus of his anymore. During that period of time, Gallon discovered his true passion for the game, and ultimately blossomed into the young man that he is today.
Gallon spoke to DLeagueDigest.com on the heels of yet another 20-plus point performance for the Delaware 87ers in the NBA D-League. Gallon has played well as of late, lifting his season averages to 17.7 points and 9.7 rebounds.
Gallon talked about his recent hot streak, “It’s been really good , I feel like my team is starting to trust me. I know that I have to show everyone more consistency, but I think I’m doing that now. I’m showing everyone that I’ve been putting in the time on the basketball court, and that I’m a young man now.”
People are certainly noticing his impressive play, in fact, it was reported by Shams Charania of Real GM that Gallon recently rejected an offer to play in China. Gallon is focused on playing in the NBA again, and that remains his main goal despite the temptation to take a lucrative overseas offer.
“It wasn’t a tough decision besides the financial part, my team and I have a plan and we’re sticking to it.” Gallon added.
Playing for the Philadelphia 76ers single NBADL affiliate, Gallon has had the opportunity to show the organization his inspired work ethic. With the current state of basketball in Philly, there could be an opportunity for Gallon down the road, or even sooner. The team already issued out a pair of 10-day contracts to another NBADL big man Dewayne Dedmon.
It’s apparent that Gallon has retained the skills that helped him get on NBA teams’ radars to begin with, and perhaps what’s most important, is the fact that Gallon has shed some weight. However, Gallon is still a large presence, and in Reno at the NBA D-League Showcase, you couldn’t miss Gallon off the court due to an extremely large red Old Spice NASCAR jacket.
It turns out that jacket is an indicator of Gallon’s weight loss. “My Mom actually bought me that jacket when I was in high school, and since I’ve lost some weight I can actually fit in it again.” Gallon said.
There’s no questioning Gallon’s determination, his current journey back to the NBA included two games (game 1, game 2) with the LoneStar Strikers of the IBL, followed by mini-camp with the New York Knicks, and now he is flourishing with the Delaware 87ers.
Time will tell on Gallon’s NBA return, but his inspired play including seven double-doubles thus far, is a huge boost towards his goal.
