After being acquired by the Austin Toros then dealt to the Springfield Armor, Sundiata Gaines will now head to Reno as the Bighorns have traded for the NBA veteran according to a source.
In exchange for Gaines, Springfield will receive Reno’s original 2014 third round draft pick and the returning player rights to Samardo Samuels.
Gaines played in 14 games with the Idaho Stampede during the 2009-2010 season, and averaged 23.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.8 assists in 36.5 minutes.
After 14 games with the Stampede, Gaines earned a 10-day contract and made the most of it. Over three NBA seasons he’s played in 113 NBA games.
Gaines will add backcourt depth to the Bighorns roster, and also provide head coach Joel Abelson with another experienced NBA D-League player, both are crucial for a playoff push in the second half of the season.
