According to a team source, Fab Melo has entered his name into the NBA D-League player pool. Last season, Melo spent 33 games of his rookie season with Boston’s NBA D-League affiliate the Maine Red Claws.
Melo has certainly made the rounds in his short professional career, and it looks like the former Syracuse big man is returning back to the NBADL with hopes of landing a 10-day contract.
Melo spent training camp and preseason with the Dallas Mavericks, but ultimately was waived by the team. In three preseason games, Melo averaged 1.6 points and two rebounds in 8.9 minutes.
Melo was drafted as a raw post player with potential, but never displayed the motivation to develop into the player many thought he could be. However, there’s still time left as the 7-foot Brazilian is just 23 years old.
Perhaps some added time in the NBA Development League will help prove his case that he’s worthy of an NBA roster spot, even at this stage in his early career.
