Source: Conner Henry Is A Lead Candidate For Fort Wayne Mad Ants Head Coach Job

Updated: October 5, 2013

A source has told, that Conner Henry is a lead candidate for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants head coach position. Henry has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

The news comes at an interesting time, as Reggie Hayes of the News-Sentinel reported that Fort Wayne was “closing in” on a coaching hire Friday. In Hayes’ article, Mad Ants president Jeff Potter said that the candidate in mind “has experience in the D-League and will be able to take up where Ticknor left off, which is imporant.” Henry certainly fits this description.

If selected, Henry will take over after Duane Ticknor led the Mad Ants to their first playoff appearance in six seasons. Assistant coach Steve Gansey will resume his assistant coach role, and if Henry lands the gig, the combination and experience of the two, will be tremendous for the franchise moving forward.

Henry was an assistant coach during the D-Fenders record setting 2011-2012 season, where he helped the team win an NBA D-League record 38 regular season games. He also helped coach eight players to an NBA Call-Up, and assisted with six Lakers assignment players that season. Last year, Henry was a member of Reggie Theus’ staff, and the D-Fenders finished with a 21-29 record.
