Pardon my callback to the line from Semisonic’s late-90s “Closing Time,” but this will be my final post as the lead writer for D-League Digest. It has been a tremendously fun ride. The best news is that D-League Digest will carry on under the new leadership of Gino Pilato, effective immediately.
When I inherited D-League Digest from site creator Steve Weinman on July 2, 2010, I was a full-time graduate student. Although I didn’t fully realize it at the time, that lifestyle afforded me a great deal of free time. I was able to write regularly and help establish the D-League Digest brand as a leader in quality coverage of the NBA Development League at the same time that the D-League was becoming a point of emphasis for NBA franchises. Fast forward to today. I’m happily married and employed as a teacher and head of the English department. My priorities have shifted and free time has diminished significantly. Simply put, it’s time for me to move on.
I’d like to thank everyone who has read, commented, emailed, tweeted, or otherwise interacted with me during my time at D-League Digest. I’d like to extend a special thanks to Steve Weinman, who graciously gave me this opportunity three-plus years ago. Additionally, I’d like to thank the crew from ESPN’s TrueHoop blog and the TrueHoop Network, particularly Henry Abbott and Kevin Arnovitz. Being associated with their brand was a tremendous honor and I hope I did them proud. You may notice that the ESPN masthead is no longer atop the website as TrueHoop moves in a different direction. I wish them all the best as they continue to pioneer the Internet basketball blogging world.
Before I sign off I’d be remiss if I didn’t give proper acclaim to the new voice of D-League Digest. Gino Pilato should be a familiar name to anyone who has followed the D-League in recent years. If you’re new, Gino is a former D-League Digest contributor with more than two dozen post credits to his name. He most recently was a regular writer for Ridiculous Upside. Gino brings enthusiasm and a fresh new energy to D-League Digest just in time for the start of the 2013-14 season. He is an excellent writer who is dedicated to providing quality coverage of the stories and personalities that make the D-League special.
I couldn’t think of a better person to whom I could “pass the torch” here at D-League Digest. I encourage you all to get back in the habit of checking D-League Digest on a regular basis because I know he’s going to provide top-notch coverage. I know that I personally look forward to reading his posts, which I am told will begin as soon as this afternoon. Gino will also take over the D-League Digest Twitter handle (@DLeagueDigest), Facebook page, and email.
Thanks again to all who made my time here such a blast. Here’s to a great new chapter of the D-League Digest story!
